Do’s
Wash your hands! - Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.
Use Saline - Spray with a sterile saline wound wash with NO additives; do not move or rotate jewelry. Dry with sterile gauze.
Make sure your piercing does not fall out! - Check threadless / threaded ends regularly for tightness.
Keep your piercing clean! - Avoid touching your piercing more than is necessary.
Stop messing with it - During healing DO NOT twist, turn or remove your jewelry.
The Gym and your piercing - Exercising and sweating is okay, but protect the piercing from bacteria on gym equipment.
Manage your environment - Wash / Change bedding and clothes regularly.
Don’ts
Harsh Products - Avoid harsh products such as: alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and iodine
Cleaning non-sterile with non-sterile items - Avoid using items such as Q-tips or cloth towels on your piercing.
Physical Irritation - Avoid friction, twisting, turning, rough handling, or removing jewelry.
Submerging your piercing - Do not submerge your piercing in public water like lakes, pools, oceans, hot tubs, etc. during the healing process.
Skin Care Products - Try not to use beauty / personal care products on or near your piercing.
Baths - Do not take baths, as bathtubs can harbor bacteria. Showers are much safer, just make sure to rinse off your piercing when you get out.
General Tips
What if my piercing falls out? - If your jewelry comes out during your healing and you are not able to put it back in, come in ASAP to get help, it is okay to temporarily use “improper” jewelry to keep the hole open until you are able to come in, but be sure to come in within a day or so.
Don’t sleep on it! - Sleeping directly on healing piercings can cause irritation and delay healing. In cartilage piercings it may cause the angle of your piercing to shift. Using a travel pillow on top of your own pillow and placing your ear in the opening can be helpful in avoiding this.
Leave your jewelry in! - Leave the initial jewelry in place for the entire healing process unless necessary to change.
Downsizing - Downsizing before a piercing is healed should be done by a professional. Contact us to schedule a follow up!
